Prof. Surya Santoso Awarded NSF Grant for Research on A Metric for Measuring and Quantifying Wind Power Variability

UT ECE professor Surya Santoso has been awarded a National Science Foundation (NSF) grant for research on A Metric for Measuring and Quantifying Wind Power Variability. Dr. Santoso is collaborating on the work with Dr. David Morton of the Department of Mechanical Engineering.

The objective of this research is to develop a robust metric for measuring and forecasting short-term intra-hour variability of wind power with the ultimate goal of managing the variability to the desired level. The proposed metric uses the statistical range as a measure of dispersion for the varying wind power output.

Dr. Surya Santoso is an Associate Professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at The University of Texas at Austin. He also received his MSE and PhD in electrical and computer engineering from UT ECE.
