Example Itinerary
Faculty candidate in-person visits to ECE at UT Austin are a chance for the department and candidate to know each other first hand. Each faculty candidate will have an assigned host (current ECE faculty member).
A typical visit consists of the following elements:
Breakfast
The first day begins with the candidate getting an early breakfast at their hotel; they should thus plan to arrive in Austin the afternoon/evening before the first day.
Seminar
Candidates should aim for a 50-minute talk, which will take place in an allotted time of 60 minutes to allow for questions etc. The audience will be faculty from across the department, and also graduate and undergraduate students. We will have an internal-only zoom link for your talk, and with your permission record it as well – both of which are done to accommodate faculty who cannot make the seminar time/location, and will not be shared externally.
Meeting with Departmental Faculty Search Committee
Candidates will have a joint meeting with several members of this year’s faculty search committee. This meeting will take place after the candidate’s seminar, and is a venue for both follow-ups on the research and vision presented, as well as teaching and other aspects.
Meetings with faculty
We will have several meetings, either 1:1 or 1:2, with ECE faculty. This includes both those in the immediate research area of the candidate, as well as those outside the area.
Meeting with Department Chair
The candidate will have a meeting with the ECE department chair, Prof. Diana Marculescu.
Meeting in the Dean’s office
The candidate will have a meeting with the dean and associate dean of academic affairs of the Cockrell School of Engineering. The candidate’s host will walk them to the Dean’s office and back.
Lunch and dinner
Up to three faculty members will join the candidate for lunch on the first day, dinner on the first day, and, depending on the flight time, lunch on the second day.
