Texas ECE postdoctoral scholar Jianing Zhu has received the 2025 TrustAI Rising Star Award, presented at the Lock-LLM Workshop of NeurIPS 2025.
The TrustAI Rising Star Award was established to honor early-career researchers (senior Ph.D. students and postdoctoral fellows) who have made significant contributions to the trustworthiness, security, and responsible use of large language models.
Jianing is a Postdoctoral Fellow at VITA group in Texas ECE, working with Prof. Atlas Wang. He received his Ph.D. at Trustworthy Machine Learning and Reasoning (TMLR) Group in the Department of Computer Science, Hong Kong Baptist University, advised by Dr. Bo Han. He was a visiting student researcher at CMU MLD working with Prof. Pradeep Ravikumar, and a research intern at RIKEN AIP, working with Dr. Gang Niu and Prof. Masashi Sugiyama. He received his B.Eng. degree of Computer Science and Technology from Sichuan University in 2021.
His research interests lie in building human-aligned machine intelligence, particularly in developing methodologies that improve model robustness (e.g., for adversarial examples), reliability (e.g., for out-of-distribution data), and transparency (e.g., for controllability and traceability), as well as its applications to construct responsible AI and benefit social goods and safety.
