Professor J.K. Aggarwal and his co-authors received the IEEE Robotics and Automation Society Best Vision Paper Award at the 2016 International Conference on Robotics and Automation (ICRA). The award recognizes the paper titled, ‘Multi-Type Activity Recognition in Robot-Centric Scenario’, which he co-authored with Dr. Ilaria Gori, Dr. Larry Matthies, and Dr. Michael  Ryoo.

This recognition is awarded to the best paper relating to Vision presented at ICRA. It was established in 2000 to honor the authors of the best paper published in the proceedings of the annual ICRA for the year of the award presentation. The authors receive cash prize of $1000 and certificates for their participation. The papers are judged on the basis of technical merit, originality, potential impact on the field, clarity and the quality of the written paper and the oral presentation.

Professor Aggarwal is a Professor Emeritus in Texas ECE at the University of Texas at Austin (UT Austin). He has served on the faculty of The University of Texas at Austin College of Engineering since 1964. He was most recently a Cullen Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering and the Director of the Computer and Vision Research Center. His research interests include computer vision, image processing and pattern recognition.

Dr. Ilaria Gori holds a Post-Doctoral position at Texas ECE and works closely with Prof. Aggarwal. Dr. Larry Matthies is Senior Research Scientist at JPL. The research was funded by JPL. Dr. Michael Ryoo is currently an Assistant Professor in the Department of Computer Science and Informatics School of Informatics and Computing at The Indiana University Bloomington. He received his Ph.D. in Electrical and Computer Engineering from UT Austin in 2008. Dr. Aggarwal was his advisor.
