Wuyang Chen Receives Two Dissertation Awards

Texas ECE alumnus Wuyang Chen has been announced as the recipient of two major dissertation awards recently. He received the International Neural Network Society (INNS) Doctoral Dissertation Award as well as the iSchools Doctoral Dissertation Award 2024.

The INNS Doctoral Dissertation Award is presented annually to the author(s) of the best doctoral dissertation(s) in neural networks, machine learning, and related fields by INNS members in recognition of his/her high-quality, excellent, and outstanding research work. 

The iSchools Doctoral Dissertation Award is a prestigious annual competition introduced in 2013 that recognizes outstanding work in the information field.

Wuyang Chen is a tenure-track assistant professor in the School of Computing Science at Simon Fraser University, leading the DeLTA Lab. Previously, he was a postdoc researcher in Statistics at the University of California, Berkeley, worked with Professor Michael Mahoney. He obtained his Ph.D. from Texas ECE in 2023, under the supervision of Professor Atlas Wang. Chen's research focuses on the theoretical understanding of deep learning, with applications in foundation models, AutoML, computer vision, natural language processing, and addressing scientific problems. His work also encompasses domain adaptation/generalization and self-supervised learning.
