Prof. Jaydeep Kulkarni of Texas ECE has been selected as a Distinguished Lecturer for both IEEE Solid State Circuits Society (SSCS) and IEEE Electron Device Society (EDS).
The IEEE Solid-State Circuits Society's field of interest is the design, implementation, and application of solid-state integrated circuits. The SSCS distinguished lecturer program facilitates experts in the Society’s areas of interest to speak at chapter meetings and regional seminars. SSCS distinguished lecturers serve for overlapping two-year terms, are deeply knowledgeable and excellent communicators. Their range of topics focuses on current IC activities, such as technology direction; novel devices, memories, and radio technology; high-speed and precision data converters; wireline and on-chip communication; low-noise clocking, and low power design.
The IEEE Electron Device Society’s field of interest includes all electron and ion based devices. The EDS Distinguished Lecturer program provides EDS Chapters with a list of quality lecturers who can present talks at local chapter meetings. The distinguished lecturers are IEEE/EDS Fellows or IEEE/EDS Senior Members with a minimum of 10 years research experience in academia or industry.
Prof. Kulkarni is an assistant professor and a Fellow of AMD endowed chair in Computer Engineering and a Fellow of Silicon Labs chair in Electrical Engineering in the department of electrical and computer engineering at the University of Texas at Austin where he leads the Circuit Research Lab (CRL) and currently advises 12 Ph.D. students. His research is focused on machine learning hardware accelerators, in-memory computing, Device Technology Circuit Co-Design (DTCO) for emerging nano-devices, heterogeneous and 3D integrated circuits, hardware security, and cryogenic computing. He has filed 36 patents, published 2 book chapters, and 90 papers in refereed journals and conferences.
Prof. Kulkarni’s group, CRL, has demonstrated unique energy efficient integrated circuits for ML/AI applications, memory centric computing, and novel usage of emerging nano-devices. This research work has been published in flagship IEEE SSCS and EDS conferences such as International Solid State Circuits Conference (ISSCC), and International Electron Device Meeting (IEDM) and journals such as IEEE Journal of Solid State Circuits (JSSC) and IEEE Transactions on Electron Devices (TED). This research has been supported by various grants from National Science Foundation (NSF), Semiconductor Research Corporation (SRC), Office of Naval Research (ONR), Sandia National Labs and multiple industry partners including Intel, Micron, Silicon Labs, ARM, and TSMC. Prof. Kulkarni received two Micron Foundation Faculty Awards and 2020 Intel Rising Star Faculty award.
Prof. Kulkarni has participated in technical program committees of multiple SSCS and EDS sponsored conferences such as CICC, A-SSCC, DAC, ICCAD, ISLPED, and AICAS. During his tenure at Intel Labs, Prof. Kulkarni served as an industrial distinguished lecturer for IEEE Circuits and Systems Society and as an industrial liaison for SRC, NSF programs. He currently serves as an associate editor for IEEE Solid State Circuit Letters, IEEE Transactions on VLSI Systems, and a guest editor for IEEE Journal on Emerging and Selected Topics in Circuits and Systems. He is also serving as the chair of IEEE Solid State Circuits Society and Circuits and Systems Society Central Texas joint chapter. He is a senior member of IEEE and National Academy of Inventors (NAI).
