Debarati Kundu Receives 2014 Roberto Padovani Scholarship

UT ECE PhD student Ms. Debarati Kundu has been selected as one of the winners of the 2014 Roberto Padovani Scholarship for being one of the best performing interns at Qualcomm. Named after Dr. Roberto Padovani, one of the leading innovators of the company, the scholarship, first created in 2008, is awarded each year to about seven Qualcomm Corporate Research and Development interns out of hundreds of interns. The winners receive a cash award of $5,000.


Lighter, Cheaper Radio Wave Device Could Transform Telecommunications

UT ECE professor Andrea Alù and a team of researchers have achieved a milestone in modern wireless and cellular telecommunications, creating a radically smaller, more efficient radio wave circulator that could be used in cellphones and other wireless devices, as reported in the latest issue of Nature Physics.


Eric Swanson 1956-2014

UT ECE lost a valued friend on October 14, 2014 when faculty member Eric Swanson passed away unexpectedly at the age of 58.


UT ECE Graduate Student Francesco Monticone Receives Homer Lindsey Bruce Graduate Fellowship

UT ECE PhD student Francesco Monticone has been named the recipient of the Homer Lindsey Bruce Graduate Fellowship from The University of Texas at Austin Graduate School. The Bruce Endowed Graduate Fellowships were established by The University of Texas System Board of Regents for the benefit of The University of Texas at Austin in March 2000. Awards are based on major accomplishments since entering Graduate School, a well-defined program of research, strong personal statement, and letters of recommendation.



Going International with Study Abroad

This summer, Dr. Ramesh Yerraballi of the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Texas at Austin (UT ECE) led a group of sixteen first-year students on a study-abroad program to Hyderabad, India.


Prof. Joydeep Ghosh Receives Two NSF Grants for Work with Complex Data

UT ECE professor Joydeep Ghosh has received two research awards from the National Science Foundation (NSF) totalling more than $1 Million focusing on topics in complex data modeling in the healthcare field.

UT ECE faculty Prof. Lizy John and Prof. Charles Roth have co-authored a book with Byeong Kil Lee of the University of Texas, San Antonio called "Digital Systems Design Using Verilog." 


UT ECE Students Joyce Ho and Yubin Park Place at Code-a-Palooza

UT ECE students Joyce Ho and Yubin Park were runners-up at the national coding competition Code-a-Palooza held during Health Datapalooza 2014. Health Datapalooza is a national conference focused on "liberating health data, and bringing together the companies, startups, academics, government agencies, and individuals with the newest and most innovative and effective uses of health data to improve patient outcomes."


Orshansky and Vishwanath Receive STARSS Grant for Work on System Security

Prof. Michael Orshansky and Prof. Sriram Vishwanath of UT ECE have received a research grant as part of the Secure, Trustworthy, Assured and Resilient Semiconductors and Systems (STARSS) program.


UT ECE Alum Temiloluwa Olubanjo Wins Best Paper at EMBS

UT ECE alumna Temiloluwa Olubanjo received the Best Student Paper award at the 36th annual International Conference of the IEEE Engineering in Medicine and Biology Society for her work on "Tracheal Activity Recognition Based on Acoustic Signals." Temi received her BSEE from UT ECE in December 2010 and is currently a graduate student at Georgia Tech University.
