Six professors and one adjunct associate professor from the Cockrell School of Engineering have been included in the Thomson Reuters list of Highly Cited Researchers for 2014. This list recognizes many of the world’s leading scientific minds, and the strong Cockrell School representation illustrates UT Austin’s growing influence on the global research landscape. Four of these professors come from the Deprtment of Electrical and Computer Engineering (UT ECE) and the Wireless Networking and Communications Group (WNCG).
The researchers listed earned this distinction by writing the greatest numbers of reports officially designated by Essential Science Indicators℠ as Highly Cited Papers — ranking among the top 1 percent most cited for their subject field and year of publication. This earns them the mark of “exceptional impact,” according to Thomson Reuters.
Following are the UT ECE faculty members (in alphabetical order) included in the 2014 list:
Jeffrey G. Andrews, professor in the Department of Electrical & Computer Engineering, Wireless Networking & Communications Group: Andrews has published on the topics of wireless communications, information theory, communication theory and stochastic geometry. Andrews was listed in two categories: computer science and engineering.
Alan C. Bovik, professor in the Department of Electrical & Computer Engineering, Wireless Networking & Communications Group: Bovik has published on the topics of image processing, signal processing, vision, human vision and vision science. Bovik was listed in the engineering category.
Robert W. Heath, professor in the Department of Electrical & Computer Engineering, Wireless Networking & Communications Group: Heath has published on the topics of wireless communication, MIMO and communication theory. Heath was listed in two categories: computer science and engineering.
Sriram Vishwanath, professor in the Department of Electrical & Computer Engineering, Wireless Networking & Communications Group: Vishwanath has published on the topics of information theory, wireless networking and probabilistic algorithms. Vishwanath was listed in the computer science category.
