RISE 2030 – Education

Faculty teaching in classroom

Critical Success Factors

The overarching goal of Texas ECE’s education strategy is to further our educational mission and ensure that we are well positioned to continue to educate and prepare our students to serve the workforce needs, have successful long-term careers and become future leaders in their chosen fields.

As leaders in education in electrical and computer engineering, our plan is to adjust our teaching and learning approaches to account for the changing profiles of students entering our program and to prepare our graduating students for a variety of rapidly changing career profiles now and in the future.

Initiatives and Programs

Information Gathering

Collect quantitative data on time to graduation and possible reasons for graduation delay and streamline exit surveys for students, recent alumni, including maintaining an alumni database.

Advising

Develop detailed pathways tied to specific career goals,  as well as area- and degree-specific advising aids.

Communication

Assess admission decisions on the make up of our student body and communicate transparently with applicants and admitted students.

Coordination

Coordinate across undergraduate and graduate courses or through expanding the design and experimental learning experience throughout the curriculum.

Future Workforce

Develop pathway programs through intentional REU programs, joint BS/MS offerings with other institutions, micro-credentials to support workforce development and expand pathways to graduate study.

Breadth Support

Offer support for writing and communication skills for all students, dedicated ethics instruction, structured and guided approach to teamwork, expanded “bites” courses for undergraduate students, and expanded opportunities for our graduate students to contribute to the teaching and other missions of our department.
